Christian Fischer has been senior consultant in the Topic Centre since January 2006. In his entire career, Christian Fischer has been deeply involved in the development and implementation of EU and national policy and legislation in the field of waste and resources, thus giving him unique knowledge and insight in the European history of waste policy-making.

At the moment Christian Fischer is associated member of ISWA’s Task Force on Green House Gases.

Christian  Fischer was Head of the Division for Household Waste in the Danish EPA, a division counting 16 experts. In this position, he was responsible for the preparation of Government strategies on waste, legislation and policies on waste, replies to the Danish Folketing, Danish positions to EU legislation, negotiations with local authorities, the business community and the EU Commission. Christian has held a long list of different positions, here among as Data Manager in the then European Topic Centre on waste (ETC/W) and he has worked for the Danish EPA's Division for Industrial Waste and Division for Waste Water. 

Christian has been the author and co-author of various publications including “Improving recycling levels of municipal waste and construction and demolition waste in the EU (2009)” -  “Waste without borders in the EU? (2009)” -  “Transboundary shipments of waste in the EU-developments 1995-2005 and possible drivers (2008)” – “Sustainable Consumption and Production and Waste Management over the Pan European Region (2007)” – “Sustainable Consumption and Production in Eastern Europe, the Caucuses and Central Asia (EECCA) and South Eastern Europe (SEE) (2007)”. 

Christian has obtained MSc in Geography and History from University of Copenhagen

Christian is a Danish national.
